With a new Venom trailer out this week, all eyes are back on Marvel’s Spider-Man spin-off. Starring Tom Hardy, it’s promising to be a brutal extension of Marvel’s classic movie series and it’s not for the faint-hearted. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming release. When is Venom released in the UK? It will open in UK cinemas on Friday 5 October. What is the age-rating? The age rating for Venom is 12A. Is there a trailer? Yes, there is. What is it all about? Tom Hardy’s character Eddie Brock discovers he has been taken over by some weird alien, parasitic symbiote hell-bent on using him to find his next human meal. Good guy Eddie struggles against this new ‘power’ as, while giving him superhuman strength, the parasite tries to get him to kill innocents. Tom’s let himself go a bit in between movies it would seem (Picture: Marvel) Who is in the cast? As well as Tom Hardy, the movie stars Riz Ahmed as Dr Carlton Drake, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Woody Harrelson. The cast also includes Jenny Slate, Marcella Bragio, Reid Scott, Michelle Lee, Mac Brandt, Christian Convery and Sam Medina. Venom pops into his local store for a snack (Picture: Marvel) Speaking at Comic Con, Tom Hardy recently revealed his decision to play the character. ‘My son came to me with a specific character that he absolutely fell in love with, and I started to take a look at it myself,’ he said. ‘And then, as if by magic, a script appeared on the horizon, which was awesome. ‘Because having had done Dark Knight [Rises] with Chris[topher Nolan], I’d kind of done my superhero bit in some aspects. ‘But when I was presented with the opportunity to play Venom, and that correlated with my son’s love for Venom and how cool he was, I got really really excited and decided I really wanted to do it.
